06 ram 5.7 rough idle and crank sensor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 06 Dodge Ram Hemi that is hard to start
unless I give it gas. Once it turns over, it has a
rough idle while in park, as if it's going to stall. I
have replaced the crank sensor twice and I am still
getting p0335 crank sensor code. I have also tried
wiping the codes and it comes back right away.
Any ideas? I also see a check gauges light.

One of the causes for a crank sensor code is off-timing due to a worn timing chain. A worn guide or tensioner can let slack into the timing chain. The chain itself has a considerable service life span, but those plastic guides and tensioners are weak links. You may also want to look at your valve train - lifters, rockers, and valves/springs. The rockers can pop off or a valve can drop, those can throw same codes as it puts timing off. You can check compression to get an idea if a valve is hanging open. If you pop the valve covers and turn the crank by hand you can also get an idea if there is slack in timing chain.

I don't hear any clicking or chirping, when I'm in park the engine fluctuates, while driving I can't go past 10mph but the ebbing doesn't rev past 1000 rpms.
