Starting and driving issues

Asked by Kris Feb 09, 2017 at 06:30 AM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 dodge ram 1500 4.7 having starting and
driving issues, in the morning truck starts just fine,
if I drive it for a good 3 miles or so and turn it off it
the takes for ever to start, it cranks for good 3 to 4
times before starting.
Now just recently the truck will shut off while
driving and will pull over let truck sit for a few min
and it will start right back up again, I go about
another mile down the road and does it again and
again.
Ok so here are the codes and the repairs that I
have done and the repair I am going to do and the
problems are still the same. I have had p0420
p0700, brake and abs light to come on and then go
off after about 5 miles there were some other
emission codes I can not remember them at this
time, I have replaced all o2 sensors, I have
replaced fuel pump and repair wiring for fuel pump,
I have replaced oil pressure sensor ad the crank
shafts potsition sensor.
I am going to be replacing the  transmission
governor sensor and pressure sensor next, if
anyone else has had any of these problems please
your input is greatly appreciated.

In most cases with the po420 code the catalytic convert needs to be replaced to fix the problem. If the P0420 code is combined with other codes, try fixing the other codes first.

Isn't the cam and crank sensor the same thing? I have replaced the one on the right side of block near the transmission was a little hard to get to and get out, when I got the part I asked for a crankshaft position sensor. Is the camshaft sensor in another location, thanks for your help

Went and found it at my break, I will be picking up the part once I'm off work thanks for the advice

I have fixed my stalling issue it was the camshaft sensor, thank you for the help, I am still having starting issues, still cranks a few times to get it started. Starts fine in the morning. Now if I drive and park for a few min go to start it cranks a few times and then will finally start, I have code po700 that has been coming on, and every once in awhile po420, I rest the codes and the po420 goes away and then once I drive about 50 miles on the freeway the po700 come on, I am not having shift issues. About 3 days ago the trans temp mil came on and then went off after a few min and has not came back on since, truck has about 250k and all maintenance has been done since I have had it. Any thought will help thanks

If it is still doing it....unplug your battery and tie the 2 cables together for 30seconds...it reset the brain to read that specific cam sensor
