My truck keeps dying on me

Asked by Derek Feb 18, 2018 at 11:32 AM about the 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I was at a stop light the other day
my truck completely shut down.  Would
not start.  I replaced the battery but still
died.  Now to start it I have to feather the
gas.  Once it starts runs for about 1 min
and dies.  The one minute it's running it
idols between 500 and 1000 rpm.  What do
you think is wrong??

So many possibilities, fuel pump may no be working right. Have to diconnect line to fuel rail or engine turn key. If fuel is comming out in a good amount it may be working but still could stop other times. Fuel pumps suck because they work then dont all of a sudden after warm and driving just chuuuum stop. No crank over wont start. Hour or less later it starts runs no problem. Alternators, only drain battery when not working otherwise when running the alternator is sending power to everything. So if batery was bad we have to ask why. If changed and drained again why. Alterator most likely. So two reasons to check first, fuel and spark. Main two. Then sensors malfunctioning elswhere and also, pullies! Had cars die from ac pully siezed, tension wheel seized, belt was broken, check belts and pullies, if they are seized the engine wont turn! Even with fuel and spark.
