Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yup thats right I have to pump or stomp on the gas pedal to start my 2004 Ram 1500 HEMI.  Now I know what you going to say, because its what I thought too!  pumpimg or flooring the pedal does absolutely nothing....thats what 15 other mechanics told me too,  however the fact is that if I turn the key the engine will just crank over and over, when I pump the pedel a little bit, it will sputter and almost want to start, and if I pump it and then floor it the truck will start.  once it starts the truck runs beautifully. I changed the EGR valve, Cam senor, Crank senor, and cleaned out the throttle body with carb cleaner spray, new fuel pump in the tank too.  this is crazy someone please help me....about to set fire to the truck, only 60,000 miles.

I dont remember seeing any black smoke. Now sometimes it starts with no problem at all. Then i drive about 2 miles turn off the truck for 10 minutes then it will be hard to start. Somedays it happens every time i try to start it.

a few ways.. pull the rail off the intake and place a piece of thin cardboard underneath to see if there is one leaking down after start up, fuel rail must still be attached to the line for this. another way is to just take them all out and have them checked and balanced. you may also have one or two, (same cylinder)of the 16 spark plugs be darker than the rest from the additional fuel in the cylinder
