Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i recently snapped my rear pasenger side axle off at the tire and axle housing. i
replaced the axle and the axle bearing. and now truck vibrates over 60mph. i lifted
tires off the ground and put it in gear and didnt even get to 35mph before rear tires
starting shaking so violently that i thought the truck was going to fall off jacks.
passenger rear tire will spin faster then driver rear tire and also if just off ground and
i spin tire i can can hear and feel weird clunk in differential like almost a quarter turn
of tire before gears in diff housing match up. im just not sure what all this means or
where to start to fix the problem. im thinking maybe the pinion bearings need
replaced.

hi of course you had the diff pan off to replace the axle what condition was the fluid and was there any metal as well?? .....// it sounds like you have bad side and pinion gears...// most likely the whole diff will have to be rebuilt inc the ring and pinion

the gears all looked good though and gear oil looked good no metal flakes in oil. the oil didnt smell burnt either. i was wondering if the pinion bearings could cause this or if maybe even just the bearings on end of axle closest to wheel if the were put in crooked maybie could it cause this.

how exactly do i check the gears in diff to see if they are worn or messed up.

ok ok then I think we have to step back and keep it simple if everything looks good and bearings not making noise then they most likely are all good...// did you remove the drive shaft and check the U/Joints ...if not then I would do so your not wasting any money just some time to remove the four bolts and check to see if the rear one is frozen or binding in one spot
