Different year Dodge Ram 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have what I think is a 1999/2001 Dodge Ram
1500 5.9L 4wd. The guy I bought it from told me it
was an '01 and the rear axle was shot so I put a '01
rear end on it. At that time I decided to do new
brakes all the way around and got '01 pads for the
front and they were completely different so I got '99
pads and they worked. The abs and brake light
have always been on and the brakes lock up really
easily. I've been told that it's because the years on
the truck are different. I've never been too
knowledgeable on electrical components on truck
so any help will be appreciated.

Yes i hooked it up when I replaced the rear. Would the different years play a part in my cause?

If the sensor is not compatible then yes it will cause a problem. I have no idea if you can install the correct year sensor in the newer axle. If the sensor is bad it could be the source of your problem. I would start by looking up both years and seeing if the part numbers for the wheel speed sensor are the same for both years.

From what I gathered so far the wheel speed sensor is the same because the dorman replacement had the same part number.

The problem with that is the body was put on a different chassis. The body was the only thing that was a 2001 before I did the rear axle then that's when I realized that the body was set on a different truck.
