motor swap

Asked by Diana Mar 10, 2018 at 04:05 PM about the 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 1999 dodge durango 5.2 L 4x4 (auto) that isn't insurable because of
rust, motor and drive train great.  My friend has a dodge 1500 ram 4x4 with
5.9 L (auto) with a cracked block.  B4 i get the durango towed away, we are
wondering if its possible to swap motors?  Any other issues she would face
(shes a mechanic apprentice) such as needing to swap tranny and...??? (pic
is durango where motor will come out of...)

It will work but to make everything easier transfer everything from the durango to the truck that includes all the computers and wiring, complete drive train, engine and tranny, you may have to have a drive line modified due to transmission tail shaft length but then again maybe not. You may also experience some minor problems with exhaust system but it's nothing an exhaust shop can't make up for you. Now you will notice some power changes so be aware of this.
