Occassionally starting off and it will grind then stop, then occasionally will grind 30-40
mph, then stops. Shifts good, no check engine light. Runs good on freeway

I found out it is the transfer case.......More precisely snap ring inside transfer case........Expensive part! I thought I would let anyone know out there who is having same problem! Good luck!

The transfer case is expensive, most shops won't repair the case so they just put in a new one. But, if you are doing your self and have the noise mentioned above, then it is more than likely the snap ring inside the transfer case. With proper tools not to hard of a fix! Good luck!
