Speedo jumps

97 dogs ram  1500, Speedometer jumps up
when brake pedal is pushed what could be the
problem

Under the heading of places to start looking, almost sounds like the speed sensor on the tranny might be going out or come loose. If you live in areas where salt is used prodigiously for passive traction control (love those big werds)...the connectors maybe dirty or corroded. HOWEVER, the brake light/cruise control sensor on the brake pedal could be causing the problem as well.
