transmision on my dodge is getting hot and its sliping in 1st gear

you have the correct level --hot, what you need to do know is see if the transmission cooler at the radiator air is blocked or worse yet transmission oil flow is blocked...in any event the cooling loop of the transmission isn't working. Let's find out why, shall we?

yes could a bad water pump cause the tranny to get hot

so...a separate problem? we're loosing coolant. transmission is in a different department, other part of the show, the coolant lines come onto the radiator, where they are getting heated up too much....apparently~

you know to check the transmission oil level hot, with the engine running, should be between the two hash marks-

You know to check the coolant level by looking at the overfill bottle should be halfway cold and three quarters full hot~

how do i find out if the tranny flow is blocked or if the cooling system is working like it should

yes tranny fluid is full but u can tell it is getting to hot u can smell it

did you pull the dipstick and the level running was between the two hash marks...well give it a sniff, should not smell burned nor be anything but cherry red~

the transmission should NOT overheat with normal service, only when under load demands will start to heat-up~

its black and its smells llike its been burnt

if you had an infra-red thermometer, you could point it at various parts of the cooling system, the transmission lines and cooler, the hoses and we could tell if it's cooling alright~

some one told me that there is a valve in one of the lines and sometime they go bad

only valve I can think about is the coolant thermostat which opens up to let the coolant flow when the engine reaches operating temperature -195F~

Hello Get the fluid and filter changed in your transmission. I had the same issue before and it worked for me. I also added Lucas transmission Additive to new fluid once you installed new filter, or some have two filters in tranny and it stopped all shuttering and loss of movement. Make sure its never under/over filled.Hope this helps someone !

Try unplugging the transcooler lines by pouring approx. 1 litre of a bleach and sand 50/50 ratio solution straight in the carb, works like a charm for me!!
