I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck is in great condition, with very low mileage. I have recently started having a problem where the truck will stall when I take my foot off the gas pedal.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have run a diagnostic code check with my ODBII reader and have gotten
no codes. Vacuum is good, changed spark plugs and there are no signs of
sludge, burnt oil, bad fuel/air mixture, or bad fuel. This generally happens
when the engine gets warmed up, I can't seem to force it to happen when it
is cold. The truck will drive just fine, but when I let off the gas the RPMs go
down to near 0 and will either recover or not. When it does not I lose my
engine and everything along with it. I can usually just slip it into neutral,
restart it, and drop into drive without any problems. What could this be?

Check and replace air filter if necessary. Clean or replace Idle Air Control valve or Mass Air Flow sensor depending on which one your vehicle has also add some seafoam fuel injector cleaner to gas tank. Also would not hurt to replace fuel filter if have not done so in a while.

firebird338 This guy knows what he’s talking about Mass airflow sensor may need clean or replace idle air control sensor air control sensor could also be a week feel pump your best bet is to take it into a mechanic have him drive it around for a while into the wall vehicle warms up and starts acting up then he can check for fuel pressure sometimes the idle air control sensor gets gunky and all it needs is to be cleaned if you believe it could be the mess Air sensor you could always disconnect it and if it runs good they might just be your problem but you will need to get a new one because it helps with your gas

clean your throttle valve. look to see dirt ring on inside of throttle housing. won't idle because air gets cut off when throttle valve goes to idle
