My 1996 dodge ram 1500 will not engage into 4 wheel drive.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1996 dodge ram 1500 will not engage into 4 wheel drive.  It has the same symptoms as an earlier explanatation pertaining to a vacuum leak.  Cruise control and 4 wheel drive not working.  I told the garage mechanic and he called me back and said that is exactly the problem.  The vacuum hose is shot.  He is working up an estimate of how long it will take to fix and how much the hose will cost....   What is a fiar amount for a licensed mechanic to charge to replace this hose?

it depends on the fix it is two steel lines that have rubber ends on them ..if the steel lines rotted out and he is going to replace them with the same thing then its the cost of the part plus the labor ...I would think that 1.5 hrs would be fare if he buys the factory parts (if still available)...but if hes just replacing the ends then no more than an 1 hrs time ...this is just my professional opinion..after all you diag the problem
