Oil pressure in a 1996 dodge ram 1500 5.2

Asked by Rhett Jun 06, 2018 at 03:02 AM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 LT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck that has 195,000 miles when in park or st
high rpm, has good oil pressure. But when stopped
at a red light or at low rpm I have little oil pressure,
about 10 psi. Could that be because of the oil
pump .

1 sure way to tell before you go n spend lotsa time n/or "bigger" bucks...try using a 40 or 50 weight oil n see if there's any difference. Short of that, time for either a mechanical/external/troubleshooting oil pressure gauge check, new oil pressure sensor or hi volume oil pump.
