Is it possible to modify a dodge ram 1500 1994 fuel pump to fit a 1996?

Asked by mattreynolds38 Oct 13, 2013 at 10:05 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Club Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My buddy has a 96 and his fuel pump is
going out. I have a 94 fuel pump but it says
only for 94 an 95. I think the only difference
is the wiring so if i splice the wires and use
the connectors off the 94 will it work?

you may be able to switch out the pump inside the module assm. go to autozone.com and see if it is the same.

Yes it will work. That OBD 2 comment that the other guy made has nothing to do with it. It's a pump. It works off of a ground and a power wire, not a sensor. Just keep the original module, but switch out the pump, and be sure that the wire harness fits. If not, you might have to modify it. The reason that many parts are listed as being incompatible, is because there may be just one insignificant difference, such as: one uses this kind of filter and the other uses that one, or one has a different wiring harness. But once modified, the earlier model will work fine with the newer model's pump. -MOBILE MAN CAN - ASE MASTER TECHNICIAN.
