Question type: Maintenance & Repair

PLEASE HELP. My Malibu 2001 ignition key always, always gives me a hard time trying
to turn off the car. I have to sit in the car and wait , keep trying back and forth drive
around a bit, turn the wheel, it is so frustrating! I bought the car just last month. What is
the problem?

now the reason that it is sticking is because there isn't quite the 12.5 volts to have it engage properly...and seems to be sticking~ test the voltage at the pins to see if the necessary voltage is at play there....you could also renew the ground connection from the 1/0 battery cable to chassis ground with a wirebrush~ thusly creating good ground and the necessary voltage to keep the relay out of the woods~

The key cylinder is worn out. Buy a new key cylinder and it will come with a new key.

The cylinder has tumblers inside that the key pushes and lines up on. They get worn and won't release the key or let the key go in the slot.

The Malibu has a common fault take it a to dealer to see if it was the same yr and model recalled by Chevrolet due to ignition key problems. First. Thr. Do what the other guys suggest below renew ignition key and cylinder if thr car has already been seen for thr same problem.
