Leaking Coolant bad

Asked by Jan 27, 2017 at 12:10 AM about the 2001 Chevrolet Impala Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When replacing water temp sensor, the part holding it cracked.  Is that the
upper intake manifold, or is there a seperate part that I can get from a junk
yard?

If you have the 3.8L (Series II 3800) V6 that's the lower intake manifold. Unfortunately it's a big job to replace it. I'm sure you can get the manifold at the junk yard (2000 thru 2005 should work) but the plastic upper intake will need to be replaced as well as the gaskets. It's about a 6 hour job. Don't reuse the plastic upper intake manifold. They crack. If the eight character of your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is the letter "K" you have the 3.8. HTH. -Jim
