Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I have the truck in 4WD and accelerate from stop sign or red light, there is a ratcheting sound. it seems to go away after I get going. Like something is slipping initially. I jacked the truck up off the ground and wiggled the front and rear driveshafts by hand. The front one has a little play and I hear a metallic sound. hard to tell where it is coming from. Anyone have any suggestions?

Clearly this is one of the Moving components---I am suspecting an unintentional "thread" put there by your brake lathe operator, causing the pads to make with the ratcheting sound until they back away on their slides...tho take a hearty looksee at the U-Joints (the most common failure point)~

It only makes the noise when I am in 4WD. Sounds like it's coming from front prop (drive) shaft between transfer case and front pumpkin.
