What would cause a 4x4 to 2wd to fail

My 2003 S-10 will not shift back and forth 2wd to 4wd high ,but the 4wd low works

did you try putting it in park or neutral before switching?

worked on the truck tonight,tracing ,checking electrical connectors.works fine now.Will see if it holds up.
