Whining noise upon aceleration not all the time belts and pulleys are fine

Beginning pump shaft failure... (granted that's a worst case scenario). Try this experiment. Remove the serpentine belt and test drive for a short distance (on an isolated straight-away). No noise? It was belt, pulley, or power accessory related. Still have noise? Running gear related.
