It's not oil quantity but oil pressure engine saver, shuts off fuel pump when oil pressure falls below a pre-set threshold. Sure, low oil quantity can cause low pressure, but would have to be more that a quart low. I made this for a different question on a Chevy, so your engine may be same or similar. Try to listen, carefully if you can hear your fuel pump running. Only problem is I don't know if it is a return-less system where the fuel pump shuts on and off to act as a pressure regulator, (if so, you will not hear pump run with key on run and engine not running. It has pumped up and shut off) or a fuel-return system that the pump runs all the time and sends excess back to tank. Click for full screen

IF IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO START-(LONG CRANKING TIME)-YOU MAY HAVE A DEFECTIVE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH.THE SWITCH WHEN GOOD, RECONIZES OIL PRESSURE UPON START UP WHICH IN TURN SENDS VOLTAGE BACK TO THE FUEL PUMP. ALSO OIL LEVEL DOES HAVE TO BE NEAR THE FULL MARK

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR TIMING BELT? TAKE THE OIL CAP OFF AND HAVE SOMONE CRANK THE ENGINE OVER. LOOK THROUGH THE OIL FILL HOLE TO SEE IF THE ROCKERS ARE MOVING UP AND DOWN. IF NOT,--TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT TIME
