My truck just cut off while it was parked in the driveway. it wouldn't turn over I changed starter, now it turns flywheel a little but not much. Small amount of white smoke from carb? What's wrong?

When it first happed battery was dead, its
old, so I hooked cables up and it wouldn't
turn over at all. Just a loud thumps. I
tapped on started and it started but running
wierd a little shakey. It wouldnt start again,
it tried to turn flywheel but barley could turn
it. Thats when I changed to another used
starter. Its not any better. And small
amount of smoke out the carb when try
turning it over. Please help.

Remove all of the spark plugs and rotate the engine from the crank pulley, it should rotate with some resistance but move easily overall. Possible timing chain failure
