I have the column torn down to the ignition actuator rack, how do you remove the rod, I believe it is broken. the rack it loose, it will start but have to tilt the wheel to turn it off, ignition switch replaced, ok there, so I figure the rod that attached to the rack has broken. I cannot figure out how to get it out to remove it. How do you get the back of it off, I know I have to remove the pins in the side, are is there any other screws? I'm uncomfortable at this  point.  Where would you purchase the discontinued rod GM part #26010649.  Any help would be appreciated.

I do not know the answers to your questions but can tell you it would be much easier to remove the column and work on it outside of the car. You should be able to undo the lower knuckle, make sure everything is unplugged and disconnected then undo the mounting bolts to remove it as an assembly
