Misfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Start my truck and can drive a whole tank
of gas out without a problem,but if I shut
off and re crank it up it misfires. Can
anyone tell me what's the issue I have at
hand?

May want to check the engine compression, may be getting a low cylinder.

Figure out which cylinder is misfiring and remove the spark plug. Inspect the electrode. Is it wet and oily? If so you probably have a bad valve guide seal on that cylinder that is allowing oil to seep past the valve stem when you shut it off and it's fouling the spark plug. As a "Band-Aid" fix get a spark plug anti-fouler from your local auto parts store. That'll keep the spark plug from getting oil on it so it will fire. HTH. -Jim
