Non-OEM CV Joint compatibility

Asked by Mar 01, 2014 at 10:13 AM about the 1997 Honda CR-V LX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There are 3 front joints need to be replaced in my car. OEM spare parts from Honda are
too expensive, so I bought one from Japanese company NKN NS6271-1H.
They say the joints are fully compatible, but I want to check this, because this part is
highly serious.
I've attached a drawing which contents my measurements of NKN joint, but I have no
data for original OEM part to compare with.
Please compare my measurement with OEM part 44310-S10-A00.
Many thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much. I've looked on line for OEM measurements and can only find after market. As long as you have the right number of splines and the over all length of the shaft are the same, you should be good. Every after market is going to have a slight variance in measurements. I just put after market in my Camry, and everything went smoothly. Take your old shaft and the new one, and measure from end to end. That should be the most important issue. As long as it's the same length and the splines match, it should fit with no problems.

I agree with reelin68. As long as your spline count is correct you will be ok.

Many thanks for answers! I also hope that NKN joint will be ok. My car is now out of order because of them, so I will be able to compare new and old joints only in service. These are drawing of compatible(?) joint from chinese suppliers. As you can see, sizes are different (specially the total length)..
