My transmission is slipping.

Asked by Zkshrout Apr 05, 2020 at 04:54 PM about the 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 4 Dr LX Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My transmission is slipping, it takes off just
fine and shifts into second just fine, but after
that it just revs up and won’t shift around
45mph. Checked and double checked the
transmission fluid and it’s fine.

Check the motor and trans mounts, worn mounts cause driveline misalignment and shifting issues. If those check out, it's time for a rebuild. Slipping is an indication of worn bands and clutches. Have a trans shop verify. On a 1990, I am surprised it lasted this long.

It had an engine rebuild in 2007. Idk if my grandpa replaced the trans or not but the motor has about 20k miles on it. Guess it’s time to rebuild or replace it.
