Battery not charging an steering wheel not moving

Today my car has been driving fine.
Went to get my daughter some food
sterling goes out an battery not charging
phrase comes up with battery light

Sounds as though your serpentine belt slipped (or engine died), resulting in the charging light to come one and power steering to cut out. If the engine did not in fact die, then it has to be the belt - have it checked, the tensioner may be bad allowing belt to slip.
