Hard shift from 2nd to 3rd

I have a 2002 Chevy TrailBlazer LS it is having
trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd and will not shift
from 3rd to drive i have a solenoid for it but I'm not
sure if it will take care of the problem or not I was
looking for some information on what it may be to
do some trouble shooting im very tight on money
so hopefuly no shop needed
