Transmission shudder

Asked by Harold Dec 05, 2019 at 12:35 AM about the 2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty XL Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 04 f250 super duty with
the 5.4. When I drive down the
road my tranny has a shudder to
it. When I get to 3rd gear tends to
get worse, unless I let off the gas
and then get back on it. The
shudder will then go back to
minimum.
Any ideas as to what this is,
what's causing it, and how doi fix
it?

Check the fluid color and level. You may want to change the fluid and add Lucas Transmission fix.

I just bought the truck inn September and I did change fluid and filter. Even though the fluid I drained didn't look bad or smell burned. And yes I added a Bootle of lucas. I'm curious if it might have something to do with the torque converter?

If the shudder happens when the torque converter should be locking up then it may be faulty. I would have a transmission shop tech look at it.
