Chevy suburban transmission

Asked by Jul 12, 2017 at 01:50 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Lost reverse after it had been sounding pretty rough for a
bit. Mechanic says $1,800-$2,000. Is this reasonable? Is
this possibly something I could do myself? I used to work
on my own and some friend's vehicles quite a bit, but that
was over 20 years ago. Just trying to save money, but also
trying to decide if it is even worth the expense. 263K miles,
2002 suburban, body only in fair condition.
