Same year simple exchange... misc brackets or accessory might need indexing. as long as engine series is not different OF, course replace the awful Ford design 2 piece spark plugs when the engine is out, all these 5.4 3valve engines (photo in my garage) have the issue (breaking plugs) until 2008 correction.

@ Auto_Centric Is there any difference in the cam phaser? My sons is a 2004.5 F150. The guy doing my swap is giving us the run around saying he has to get new timing chains and cam phaser before he can finish Had the truck for two weeks...

Did he mention the plug problem or VCT's too. Possibly just doing a through job replacing the cam chain and phasers? They DO FAIL..did the pin shear from the cam are they "loose" even on a lower mileage engines.. ask him lots of questions, I can purchase a complete chain kit and phasers Vct's like now one call done! two weeks no excuses the guys slow..I never wait for parts even if it means $100 overnight shipping fee, my clients don't wait no need when scheduled this engine exchange is a two day service not two week unless he's doing it for a few hundred dollars, if you're willing to wait.

No just wanting to charge me an extra $500 to change cam phaser and chain

It's actually a good idea cause these phasers tend to fail rather quick. I've seen it as early as 60k miles. $500 is a good deal but if it's OEM

There's no problem with the phasers in a 2004 Expedition 5.4 engine. It doesn't have any. It's the older 2 valve design. Of course you've found that out by now, but it would be nice if some of the "gurus" on here knew that.

Yes, I know it's an old post. I just left that tidbit of info so it might help someone else. And, no a 2004 5.4 from an Expedition does not have phasers. It's the earlier 2 valve engine. I sell them for a living, so I kinda need to know these things.

Psengines Engines can you use a 5.4 2v engine out of a 04 expedition in a 05 f150 that has a 3v if you swap heads and intake from the 05 3v ?

5.4 3v engines have a flat top piston vs 5.4 2v engines have a dish piston, they will work if you swap the heads and the oil pump (if is a healthy one) but the engine will have much less horsepower, also the older 5.4 2v oil pumps are less psi that the newer 5.4 3v and will not the right pressure for the phaser actuators. Expedition 5.4 2v engine will not work on a 2004 and up F150 3v as an assembly.

Someone swapped my 02 5.4L engine with an 03 5.4L engine. It doesnt run quite right and has a bad vibration upon steady driving but when coasting or acceleration the vibration goes away. Im Wondering if the ECC if not replaced with the Expedition one would need to be put on a tuner and tuned to the correct specs... any thoughts?
