I have a 2004 ford f150 with 5.4 motor, automatic 4x4, used to start no problem, went out yesterday and turned the key and nothing, put in a new battery, still nothing, radio, windows all that works,
My 2004 ford f150 will not start, nothing when turning the key, but if I climb underneath and put a screwdriver across the terminals on the starter it spins but does not engage, just the high speed spinning , checked my connections, but not the ground on the starter yet, shouldn't it at least spin turning the key? The starter is just not engaging but spinning when jumping across the starter terminals, but nothing happens when turning the key
If the vehicle has a starter mounted solenoid, it could be defective if pinion gear is not engaging flywheel when voltage applied. Check to ensure voltage is being applied to solenoid when key is turned to start. If voltage present, remove starter and have checked. NO voltage, check wiring.
