Trouble starting -- strange behavior

Asked by trg1960 Aug 12, 2016 at 07:37 PM about the 2003 Ford F-150 XLT Extended Cab Stepside SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I turn the key the vehicle will rapidly "click" with no response. When I
turn the key back off and then on, all the gauges will quickly shift all the way to
the right and then back and the motor will struggle to start . . . luckily it has
started the last couple of times. What is going on?

First you should get the battery tested making sure it has enough cranking amps.

are the other behaviors (the clicking; gauges; and slow crank) signs of a battery going or are they indicative of something more going on?
