Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 Ford F150 5.4 liter runs fine when the engine is cold, then when it
warma up idles surges and stalls.  Used to stay running while in drive, but now
it won't even do that.  Strong smell of gas while the it is surging.  I replaced the
IAC valve and made no difference.  Any ideas please?

Did you check for fuel leaks?? did you check fuel pressure?? did you check fuel pump module for clam shelling? Is the check engine light on??

Check oil pressure, it probably drops after it gets warmed up. If pressure drops below 30psi, the phasers won't work because they work with oil pressure. If it's low, u have internal engine wear. Time for rebuilt

The check engine light is always on because the catalytic converters in the rear are gone and the ones in the front are hollow. But I will check for a fuel pressure problem. Could it be the fuel pump?

Any applicable trouble codes? Did you check cylinder head temp sensor? When engine is cold, it needs to run rich. Once it warms up, that is a no no, it will flood the engine. Just a thought.
