Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently purchased and old owner had an extra key made it will go into the ignition and turn the truck over but will not crank it. I tried this key not realizing it was the wrong key about 5 or 6 times and now the truck will crank (with original key) and drive but will not shift gears (automatic tranny) also the overdrive light on the gear shift is blinking, I had a mechanic take a look at it and cleared all the codes plus remove the battery cables for 30 min. and still is happening what can I do?

If you purchased a key for the ignition it has to have a chip programmed to start the vehicle. I have one without a chip I hide under the car to use as a "lock out" key in the event I lock the keys in the car. It will open the door but do nothing else. Did you purchase the correct type key?
