vibration in rear end or transmission

i hear a clunk evry once in a while and its when i leave the gas pedal and get back on it also at higher speed i feel a vibration i just changed both u joints on the drive shaft and the tires are in good shape.its a v6 2wd reg cab stepside xlt f150 2000. when i took the drive shaft out i hade a freeplay of  2 to 3 inchs turning it both ways on the rear end yoke.

the problem is in ur rear differential, the ring and pinon gears have devloped too much freeplay. it's usually pretty easy to figure out (for the average backyard mechanic) what needs to be done on it once the carrier (or pig) has been removed. I took apart a rear end just 2 months ago. so if u are a backyard mechanic and wish to tackle it yourself but still need some guidence send some good quality close up photo's of the carrier to my email joe_rota@hotmail.com.
