Motor swap

Asked by Connor Jul 20, 2016 at 05:11 PM about the 1999 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Car Customization

I have a Romeo Tritan 4.6l v8 in my pickup just hit
219,000 miles and head gaskets n timing chains
gave out. My question is can I swap it out for a
300 6 would it work and how hard would it be? I
have a 4 horse stock trailer and she didn't pull very
well and I'm trying to get options so I don't have to
listen to the wife and put her out to pasture. I like
my f150 better than the Chevy my wife bought me

You can check the net, but there are other considerations. Surf the net for what changes, if any, will have to be made to the PCM, ECM, etc. which controls the engine and transmission etc. Even with same model years there is different programming between different engines offered.

Way easier would be to go with a 5.4. At least it will already fit. The 300 i6 motor never came in that generation of truck. Idk if it would even fit.
