Why do the computers keep reading bad cylinder

Asked by Feb 22, 2017 at 08:12 PM about the 1998 Ford F-150 XL Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 98 Ford Triton 5.4 liter short bed three-
door truck. When I first got it I took it to the auto
shop and they said number 4 cylinder with bad. I
replaced number 4 cylinder plug and coil. Then I
took it back because it's still ran like crap and now
they're telling me it is 1 + 6. They said it could Be a
vacuum line or the computer. Has anyone had this
problem before and how can I fix it?

Some coil faults can migrate from one coil to another. It has happened to me. You can replace the coils one at a time or just replace them all.
