One possibility is bad gas. Did you fill up the tank when you went to the station? Check the EVAP on your vehicle. Later model Fords instructions tell the owner NOT TO fill the tank after the pumps clicks off the first time. If you force fill the tank you pump raw gasoline into the canister and vapor lines which can cause the problem.

How do you know fuel pump is working?. Sometimes when the fuel pump is on its way out it will only supply enough pressure to run the engine while driving around, but not enough to start the vehicle? Do you have the dual tank option? Did the vehicle have any surging problems before this incident?
