2002 Chevy Avalanche, Blower Motor Resistor needs replaced every 6 months
2002 Chevy Avalanche, I have replace Blower Motor Resistor about twice a
year. Heat eventually melts wires and connector. Thought the heat sink
should be inline with A/C air keeping it cool... but with the BMR not screwed
in, and the A/C on, there is HOT air passing thru that duct. Hot resistor with
hot air passing over the heat sink doesn't sound like it will last long and it
doesn't, about 6 months. Is this the way it's supposed to work?
Check the amperage draw for the blower motor and if any wiring shows signs of overheating, if the amperage draw is to high it will fry the resistor.
I actually replaced the blower motor and fan along with the wiring and Resistor the first time the Resistor connector melted... still melted about 6 months later... I still replace BMR about twice a year... I wonder if the air passing thru the air duct that is supposed to assist cool the heat sink and thus the resistor is supposed to be hot?
Still sounds like it’s higher than normal amperage draw. Have you ran additional grounds to the blower motor and check the connectors? Of course you could relocate the resistor block back towards a inner fender and wire in a little fan just for it. Hobby 12 volt ducted fans move a large amount of air, you could wire it in with a small really that turns on with the blower switch.
