Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 ford f150 xl and just recently when I go to turn the headlights off, the parking lights and dash lights stay on and if I turn the dimmer switch all the way down it turns off the parking lights but not the dash lights. I tried replacing the headlight switch and as soon as I disconnected the old one the headlights immediately turned off but not the dash lights. I don't know if it's the connector that goes on the headlight switch or something else

It does sound as if there is a relay in the system which gives power to the dash lights from the headlight switch. If that relay is stuck then power will be supplied to the dash lights at all times. However, the dimmer switch should not affect the headlights at all. Try a Haynes manual for your vehicle. They usually have wiring diagrams which would be of assistance.
