I have a 1995 f150 4x4 with the 300 i6. In summer heat, if I turn off the motor, it may not start. It doesn,t want to catch, it,ll just gargle. What is this a symtom of?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

as above, it only happens occasionally, but I may have to let it sit for half an hour while it cools before I can start it again.  The truck has 300k miles, or 524k kilometers on it

It the engine does turn over - meaning, no clicking noises, no RRR RRRR RRRR, nothing happens. It is probably the battery. Otherwise, a bad starter motor. If the engine turns over and over and over but won’t start, it could be as simple as a clogged air filter. If not, the next thing to check is the fuel pump to see if it is pumping the proper volume and pressure to the engine. Go to your local auto parts house and rent a manual fuel pressure gauge and test the fuel pressure at the engine. There should be a schrader valve (like a tire air pressure valve) that the gauge will screw on to. This problem can be caused by an issue with the ignition module or ignition coil, crankshaft position sensor, those part sends electricity to the spark plugs and can fail when it gets too hot. You would need to check for spark at the spark plugs to determine if you have spark.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. Even though the mileage is high, normally the engine has no other issues. I will bring up the points you mentioned to the mechanic I normally deal with
