My truck wont stay running

I have a 1995 F-150. It has duel tanks. Ran out of gas and now the only way to get it
started is to spray starter fluid in the carb. Although this will start the truck it will not
remain running unless I spray it with stater fluid. I did put gas in the truck approximately
2.5 gallons per tank. Any help will be appreciated.

It often happens that a fuel pump run dry will overheat and fail. They rely on the fuel passing through them to cool the High capacity/high pressure pump. Both tanks were run dry? Obviously the engine will run but the fuel isn't being delivered. Check the Inertia (impact) switch and fuses. You can unplug the inertia switch and check for power to the pumps with a test light. Remember that the fuel system is only energized for 3 seconds when the engine isn't running. BTW - Starter Fluid (Ether) can be very dangerous. A good Carb spray is safer.
