Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Starts great then just dies. Tested the IAC valve was good.37lb at the fuel rail. It seams to be getting good fire. Has no codes. My meter does not do Hz so cold not check the MAP. It has 300,000 mile some one said mite be the catalytic converter. Other things to check? Was running great when i parked it for about two and a half weeks.

I would think either the fuel regulator or that MAP sensor. An auto parts store may be able to test the MAP sensor.

If you're maintaining 37lbs of fuel pressure then it won't be the regulator. That's what the regulator is supposed to do. I would check the MAP sensor first.

No Irodri911, the fuel regulator could be stuck open thus at an idle with a good fuel pump would show good fuel pressure. But if you have a fuel pressure gauge on it and revved the engine up, then the fuel pressure would drop, because the fuel regulator is not closing to create more fuel pressure. Another test for the fuel pressure when it is running at idle is to pull the vacuum line off of the fuel regulator and the fuel pressure should go up by at least 5 lbs or more. But this thing is dying when started and with 37 lbs. showing on the gauge, it should idle. Thus thinking the MAP sensor.

Oh I know that, that's why I said if it maintains the pressure. He says he has 37psi obviously he's using a pressure gauge

Yea, I know you would, you know how it is, get a thought and just getter typed in, hit the button without proof reading...mark wanted to know more about the fuel regulator. Have a good one...

Thank both of you. I did not get out and get the MAP tested. TV went out and spent the day changing out capacitors. My family can go with out my truck but not the TV.Got the TV working. Back to the truck tomorrow.
