1992 Ford F150 5.8

If vehicle is an automatic check the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid.

Older ford's are nad about the throttle being gunked up because the EGR system is horrible .pull off the intake hose aND look at the throttle butterfly if it looks all gummed up amd dirty spray it out with carburator cleaner open throttle plate spray carb clean on a rag wipe out as much of the heavy varnish as you can ,spray the plate the sides where the plate is hinged to etc try amd spray out till its clean .may take a few cans to get the job done. Now this will probably cause a flood ing of the cylinders so it will most likely need a new set of spark plugs .explanation ...ford's are susceptible to throttle plates being dirty enough and sticking to cause the idle air control motor to not operate properly . It generally causes idle surging and engine to cut off while coming to a stop . Cles n ing the throttle plate will stop those issues .but I will tell you the idle air port ,EGR port that are both bolted in the vicinity will eventually need to be rover amd cleaned out as well .
