may be the bendix its driven in by the solenoid to engage in the flywheel


"it stops where it's supposed to start the engine". What does that mean? Does the ignition switch only turn to the "on" position and will not rotate to the "start" position?

Yes it doesn't turn where it shouldstart the engine and it's a new ignition switch but when I started it by the solenoid and starter fine but when I went to engage it into reverse it did not go into reverse


OK, you got the car to idle by jumping the solenoid. That should have nothing to do with removing the gear selector out of park. If the vehicle is parked on an incline and placed in "park" the small rearward motion of the vehicle after removing foot from brake can place a lot of pressure on the "park pawl" inside the transmission, making it difficult to shift. Try rocking the vehicle back and forth while someone tries to shift out of park.

I just got done doing that I was parked on an incline and I had my stepdad push with hit another vehicle upwards and still nothing to take the pressure off the Park pawl guess


Since your vehicle is a 91, I do not know if it has the following features, so you can check your owner's manual or net to determine. 1.) Manual Shift Interlock release - Usually a button or hole somewhere on the column or console which can be depressed or a something inserted to disengage the locking device. 2.) Make sure the brake lights come on when you depress the brakes. This is a feature built into vehicles to make sure the vehicle is not removed from the park position without the foot being on the brake. 3.) Make sure you can at least turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Determine if other accessories are powered when they usually are not with the key in the off position, like the radio, wipers etc. If so equipped and on newer vehicles, power must be supplied to a switch which releases a locking mechanism to prevent the vehicle from being shifted out of park. On newer vehicles a totally dead battery will prevent shifting from park.
