F150 won't start

My 5.0ltr piece of Ford pickup
won't start after running for an
hour or two. It died on me when I
was stopped letting my passenger
out, but it started right back up.
This afternoon when I first started
it up, it back fired, scared the hell
out of me! But then it ran fine like I
said, for a couple of hours. Now I
am stuck in front of a closed parts
store and don't have a clue what to
do and no one wants to help a lady
stranded anymore apparently!
Please help!
