Actually, the AOD trans is excellent. I have had several Ford vehicles with the AOD trans, and have even seen some with BADLY neglected AOD's. The C6 requires periodic (15-30k intervals) tightening of the bands, whereas the AOD is pretty much maintenance free outside of fluid and filter changes.
