That makes no sense. Probably just a perception issue.

Two 16gal tanks front tank I get roughly 150 miles out of it the rear tank I get 100 or less.
Ran front tank dry to make sure rear tank wasn't siphoning back into the front tank somehow (been told it happens on these older trucks with duel tanks) and it's not.
Fuel return line is running to the front tank, slowly adding fuel as your truck runs. To see this in action run front tank dry, and run only on rear tank, before you know it you'll have a reserve supply up front
