when driving it makes a clunking or loose feeling when you go over bums

Its probably the intermediate steering shaft. Very, very common on most GM vehicles from the early to mid 2000's. It could also be bad ball joints, tie rod ends or front shocks. Start with the ISS and go from there. I'm hoping that you ment bumps, LOL.
