Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2005 O/D Flashes on and off

Asked by GuruXQWCW Nov 04, 2018 at 02:25 PM about the 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT Crew Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck has the check engine light on, the OD signal light flashes but the transmission shifts smooth with no problem and the RPM seems normal. Sometimes the OD signal stops flashing after driving for a while. What can be the problem?

That is a warning of a transmission problem. I would take it to a transmission shop to see if they can read the trouble code.

I did and they said it was a speed sensor. They replaced it and it stopped flashing for about 100 miles and it started doing the same thing again and check engine back on. I brought it back and the owner of the place says I may need a transmission replaced and gave me a price. In the mean time I'm still driving my truck this way and think that it may be an electrical problem and nothing wrong with the actual transmission.
